CULTURAL COMPETENCY: A MODALITY FOR PRACTICE

Through this training, members were introduced to the concept of cultural competency and identified how bias attitudes could impede client engagement. They were also provided strategies on how to address bias and how to successfully implement cultural competency.

2ND ANNUAL AWARDS AND APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

Keynote speaker, Robert Goldschlag, JD, CCM spoke to how the coalition and county alliances alike could engage and retain membership. This was the second event that UPinPC hosted to recognize and celebrate community partnerships, coalition members and elected coalition officials.

TIPS TRAIN THE TRAINER

A “Train-the-Trainer” workshop is a 2-day class that will allow you to become TIPS certified. Becoming TIPS certified will allow you to train multiple TIPS programs including On-premise, Off-premise, and TIPS for University. TIPS (Training for Intervention Practices) is a program designed to prevent alcohol abuse, drunk driving, and underage drinking. Each program will conclude with a short exam and certification of completion.

TAKING THE LEAD: LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT CHANGING THE LIVES OF OUR YOUTH

Deputy Chief Rosario J. Capuana of the Passaic Police Department talked about the Station House Adjustment Program (SHAP), an alternative program for first-time juvenile offenders. Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes also spoke about the Prosecutor's role in drug and alcohol prevention.
